Bravo reality series set in Boerne names one of five women as a local

Bravo will premiere a reality series set in Boerne, Small Town Trouble: Texas, on Wednesday, November 18, with a two-hour first episode at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Bravo, streaming the next day on Peacock.

The network announced the series on May 11 at NBCUniversal's upfront presentation in New York City under the working title "Secrets, Lies, Texas Wives," and released the trailer and the cast on October 22. The series is produced by Wheelhouse's Spoke Studios in association with Kismet Media.

Bravo describes the series as a look inside Boerne's social circle. In the network's announcement, the show follows "a charming yet unconventional group of wives, mothers, and social insiders alongside their respective husbands, as conservative values of small-town life collide with forbidden attraction, messy friendships, and shocking secrets." Bravo's cast announcement calls the women Boerne's "most-talked-about social circle."

What the network's own cast bios say about where the five women are from is narrower than that billing. Only one of the five is identified in Bravo's materials as a Boerne local.

Alli McAnelly is that one. Bravo's bio calls her a "third-generation local" and the self-appointed "Queen of Boerne." Public business listings place an Edward Jones office run by her husband, Blake McAnelly, on IH-10 in Boerne.

Gabby Hernandez Huffman is described in Bravo's bio as "San Antonio-born and raised." The bio does not say when or whether she moved to Boerne.

Annari Uys was raised in apartheid-era South Africa, per Bravo's bio. Promotional coverage of the series says she now lives in Texas. No public source names her town.

Aaryn Williams appeared on Big Brother 15 in 2013, as Aaryn Gries. She was born in San Angelo, lived in San Marcos for college and in the San Antonio area around 2020, and later bought four acres of Texas land at an undisclosed location. Memorable TV, an entertainment outlet, reported on announcement day that she now lives in Boerne. Bravo's bio does not state her town. National coverage of the casting, including EW and People, has noted backlash over racist and homophobic remarks Williams made during her 2013 Big Brother season.

Hailey Head had no public profile before the cast announcement. Bravo's materials do not state where she and her partner, Josh Marsalis, live. Marsalis operates a San Antonio-area construction company, Goliath Building Services.

The City of Boerne has no part in the production. City Manager Ben Thatcher told the Boerne Star in May that the city learned about the project at essentially the same time the public did, through the public announcement. "The city of Boerne is not producing, sponsoring, endorsing, casting or otherwise partnering in this television production," Thatcher told the Star. He said a production manager had contacted city Parks and Recreation regarding a film permit, and that filming was expected primarily at residential homes, with possible occasional filming involving cast members in the downtown area or dining at local restaurants, and no street closures anticipated.

A petition on change.org, "Oppose reality TV shows harming Boerne's reputation," reached 529 signatures, per the Boerne Star. The petition states that reality shows like this one have "gained notoriety for excessively amplifying personal dramas, romanticizing conflicts and projecting skewed realities to the public."

Small Town Trouble: Texas premieres November 18 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Bravo, with episodes streaming the next day on Peacock.
